After the last week or so I have been working at home. This has enabled me to reflect on life, the things we take for granted, our daily routines, our little luxuries (toilet paper mainly) and how busy and vast our lives have become.
I have realised now is a good time to reset and recreate from ‘the norm’
Having restrictions has forced me to ‘think outside of the box’ how do we have fun, beat boredom, keep sanity with all this insanity going on.
Having two small children at home I have found it extremely difficult to shield them from the reality of the Coronavirus, their lives have changed dramatically in such a small space of time.
So, I’ve put together some top tips and go to’s when your finding it hard to take charge of life again.
- Create a new routine – you might not be heading out but get up and get dressed this gives you structure (pjs are comfy but let’s save them for bedtime)
- Take time to read with you children (tv and iPads are great, but 100 showings of paw patrol might send you potty)
- Baking is a great way to get creative, here’s a basic recipe for fairy cakes – 100g (3 1/2 oz) self-rising flour. 1tsp baking powder. 100g (3 1/2 oz) soft margarine or butter, at room temperature. 100g (3 1/2 oz) caster sugar. 2 large eggs, lightly beaten. – mix all together, separate into 12 cup cake cases and cook for 15-20 mins until risen on 180c or gas mark 4
- Get outside and grab some fresh air – go for a walk, even in the rain children love jumping in puddles and using their imagination (my daughter loves to pretend we’re on bear hunt)
- Arts and crafts – painting or drawing, use old Christmas cards or wrapping paper to save on cost
- Search on social media, communities are coming together with ideas and inspiration to help in these times of need (on Facebook Rainbow Trail in Felixstowe is a great example)
- Reach out to friends – use facetime or skype the children love the interaction
- Mealtimes, get the whole family involved around mealtimes where you can – from setting the table to prepping the veg it’s all educational
- Exercise – we tried Joe Wicks workouts on You Tube, if nothing else you will laugh a lot at trying this as a family (dream was better than the reality)
I hope this helps you feel less dread for the weeks ahead, you are not alone in combating parenthood in a pandemic!
Forget you’re an adult and find your inner child if only for an hour or so, lets create great memories with our children and take time to reset the vast and busy lives they’ve become accustomed too while we have chance.
Every cloud…..
