We were delighted to attend the UK Warehousing Association lunch at The House of Lords, on Tuesday 17th October. It was an opportunity for us as new members to meet other companies that operate within the warehousing sector and make new connections.
The event was opened by UKWA Honorary President Baroness Pickering, followed by a speech from Clare Bottle, CEO of UKWA were she announced ‘Year of Warehousing 2024’ campaign. UKWA celebrates its 80th Anniversary next year and Clare will be visiting and showcasing 80 warehouses up and down the UK.
It is a time to celebrate the industry:
* Warehousing represents 600m sq ft commercial real estate
* Logistics sector contributes £163billion GVA to UK economy
Clare also announced that a fully accredited Warehouse Manager CPC (equivalent of Transport Manager CPC) will be rolled out next year as part of the Year of Warehousing
Following Clare’s announcement Richard Holden MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport addressed guests.
Speaking about growth he says your voice has mattered to government for 80 years. Logistics is huge. Warehousing bolsters our communities and generates jobs.
Freight Week was launched yesterday supporting innovation in the sector.
Congratulations on launching Year of Warehousing.
