Andy Leeson at the Felixstowe-based specialist recruitment agency explains what employers are looking for in a candidate.
With the Felixstowe-based recruitment specialist always on the hunt for experienced forklift drivers to fulfil temporary and permanent roles Andy says: “We’ve pretty much always got forklift driver roles on our books, but employers are often keen to recruit those drivers whose experience is an almost perfect match for the needs of the role. Follow my tips below, and job success will be sure to follow.”
- Be honest about the experience you have from previous jobs. Fully explain the environments you’ve worked in – different terrains – being warehouse based is very different from moving pallets or other cargo around a busy yard.
- Be sure that your forklift licence is valid and meets the job needs you’re applying for in terms of load weight and height. A good way to check out the machinery groupings you are licenced to operate is to check out the Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register (ITSSAR), as the organisation is responsible for writing and monitoring training standards for all mechanical handling equipment.
- Ensure your CV is up-to-date and mistake-free. Ensure that details of time spent in positions are accurate (this is one of the first aspects of a CV an employer checks), and be confident to share employment highlights relevant to the work being applied for. Your CV is your first and only chance to impress, so work with A&S to make sure it’s fit for purpose.
Andy adds: “With forklift jobs ranging from a one-day temporary booking to a permanent role, and every permutation in between, we always advise candidates of a position’s details to check that it matches their hopes. And, as we always say, spending twenty minutes to understand what the company looking to recruit does will always stand a candidate in good stead.”
If you are a forklift driver looking for a position or would like some support to ensure your CV stands out when received by a future employer, the team at A&S is always on hand and happy to help.
